THE FIELDS FAMILY By Uriah J. Fields
Beginning with the kidnapping of Baatsi and Ashanti Nkrumga in Africa in 1776 by European slavers they and their descendants were enslaved in America for the next four generations until Harold Miller a slaveowner and Amanda a slave became the parents of Benjamin Franklin Fields. Benjamin told his grandson Uriah J. Fields the things his mother had told him about his enslaved ancestors which Uriah recorded in the novel Grandpa Benjamin. A week after Baatsi and Ashanti arrived in Charleston, South Carolina they were sold to different slaveholders and never again did they see each other just as they never again saw their two children left in Africa. It is through the maternal line that The Fields Family came to be. Beginning with Benjamin Franklin Fields' parents The Fields Family is a true story.

In 1900 William Scott lived in Amanda Scott's household (along with her sons George and Alex) since he was her 21 year old son. His father was Larry Scott (born in 1855). Confirmation of his death has not been found but is being actively sought. Records suggest he was Amanda's fourth son.

A wind is rising and rivers are flowing; Your soul too is rising and flowing; You are communing with the wind and the rivers; You, the wind and the rivers are one.
