I AM A PHILOSOPHER SAINT
By Uriah J. Fields
Who am I? Nobody knows who I am until he/she encounters
me with mind and heart. Then he/she recognizes that I am a
philosoper saint.
I am a philsopher saint. You heard me right.I did not say I am a philospher king. Let me make it clear as I declare with conviction, unapologetically, humbly, graciously and proudly,I am a philosopher saint.
I am not a reincarnation of Socrates, Plato,Aristotle, Immanuel Kant, Rene Descartes,Soren Kierkegaard, or any other acclaimed philosopher. But I am a philosopher. I am an original philosopher who is unique, idiosyncratic and peculiar in such a way that at times some people consider me to be a misbehaving or creative deviant as they realize that I am not ordinary but talented and courageous.
Who is a philosopher? To answer this question it is neessary to define philosophy. "Philosophy,"comes from the Greek word "philosophia," which literally means "lover of wisdom." Philosophy is the study and/or understanding of general and fundamental problems humans seek answers to,such as those associated with existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, spirit, and language.
A philosopher is a person who offers views or theories on profound questions in ethics,
metaphysics, logic and other related fields.
I am a lover of truth and a seeker of truth. I am constantly reaching out, searching, expanding, learning, loving and growing while being present while becoming ceases to be in the moment.
I am concerned not merely with the facts but theirmeanings and realms of meaning and how they relateto each other, to life, ultimate truth, and transcendence. Ever mindful of these words expressed by the existentialist Soren Kierkegaard, "Don't forget to love yourself," being a "lover of truth" I am keenly aware that for me to be a "lover of wisdom" I have to be a "lover of myself." It is then that I am able to love others, creation and the Creator who is the Source of wisdom.
Some of the ways I express and live my philosophy, i.e.,ways I "philosophize" are: speaking, usually in one ora few sentences," using technology that include Facebook,
Twitter, Authorsden.com, my personal website: www.uriahfields.com, with music as a composer andsinger who accepts Shakespeare's offering that the "world is a stage," which I use as I sing almost anywhere, as indicated in these lyrics from a song I composed which says "I'll sing my song wherever I go, for anyone who extends to me a listening ear and open heart, an invitationto be troubadour." And may I add, even when I have not been invited by another person to sing when I am moved by the spirit to sing, I will sing as I do in the streets, at Walt Marts and airports.
I am a philosopher who listens to others in the attitudethat everyone can teach me something I don't know.I am receptive to progressive revelation that indwells me, to nature and silence that speak to me, sometimesin transcendent ways, not only from height but depth. Never is God more real to me than when I experience Him from the depth.
Call me by any name you choose, and I may or maynot answer but when you call me a writer, singer, lover, or child or God, I am likely to answer. But surely I will answer when you call me the name, apart from the name, "Uriah" my parents gave me, that is most appropriate, "philosopher saint." Saint? you might ponder. My only comment is: I am a live saint, not a dead saint. I am a philosopher saint.
